Managing a technology project is not just about having good ideas — it’s about having a clear methodology, disciplined planning, and effective communication with everyone involved.
Here I share the 6 steps I personally apply whenever I begin a high-impact IT project. This sequence has helped me reduce errors, keep the team focused, and meet goals on time.

🔹 Step 1: Meet with the stakeholders
Every project starts by listening. It’s essential to understand the expectations, needs, and limitations of everyone involved or affected by the project.
🎯 Step 2: Define clear objectives
Without defined objectives, there’s no direction. This step ensures everyone is working toward the same vision and that success can be measured.
📦 Step 3: Identify deliverables
What exactly will be delivered? What product or result is the client expecting? This is where you define the concrete outcomes that must be ready by the end of the project.
📅 Step 4: Create a schedule
A project without a timeline is destined to drag on. You build a realistic calendar, considering time, resources, and priorities.
⚠️ Step 5: Conduct a risk assessment
Every project has risks. Identifying them early allows you to prepare, reduce their impact, and plan mitigation strategies.
🤝 Step 6: Present the plan to stakeholders
Once everything is clear, you validate it with the stakeholders. This step is key for gaining buy-in and commitment from decision-makers.
Final Thoughts
Good planning not only improves results — it also strengthens trust with clients, users, and collaborators. Each of these steps has been tested through experience and proven that order, clarity, and strategy are the best allies when managing IT projects.
